Hosted by former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub and comedian Bryan Callen, The Fighter and the Kid is one of the Web’s most popular podcasts, averaging nine million downloads per month.
Part MMA analysis and part pop-culture satire, FATK features interviews with a spectrum of celebrities and a rare chemistry between two unique characters from seemingly very different worlds. “I think we’ve hit our stride because you’ve got a cage fighter and a dirty comedian,” says Callen. “You’re talking about two people who are getting paid for [doing things] they used to get in trouble for.”
“We talk the same language,” adds Schaub, “and you feel like you’re a part of that club.”
Schaub, nicknamed “Big Brown” by Callen, was a heavyweight contender with victories over Cro Cop and Gabriel Gonzaga. A finalist and runner-up on Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter, he also played pro football for the AFL’s Utah Blaze and was a member of the Buffalo Bills practice squad. He’s now pursuing a stand-up comedy career in Los Angeles, and has already made appearances as legendary venues such as The Laugh Factory, The Comedy Store, and The Ice House.
Callen, who (in self-deprecating fashion) dubbed himself “The Kid” for his youthful good looks, was an original cast member of Fox’s hit MADtv variety show and currently stars on the ABC series The Goldbergs. (Look for a Goldberg’s spin-off series with Callen debuting in late 2017.) He has also appeared in movies such as The Hangover series, Old School, and Bad Santa.
Due to popular demand, the duo tour together, recording The Fighter and the Kid in front of live audiences. To see when they’re coming to a city near you, go to tfatk.com.
