Bodyweight Exercise: Squat
August 5, 2014 Updated May 16, 2016
The Squat is a basic body weight exercise that is a must do if you are looking for leg strength. This is a great exercise for beginners to build leg strength or for the elite to build phenomenal lower body endurance. Although very basic, many trainees perform the squat incorrectly causing knee or hip problems and then in turn shy away from this powerful exercise. Learn proper form and practice. The squat is a must in most every program.
Step 1: Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip width.
Step 2: Look straight ahead and drop down as if sitting in a low chair.
Step 3: Raise back up and repeat.
Tips and Safety: Imagine you are sitting on a very low chair behind you. Instead of simply dropping down, pull yourself down with your hamstrings and gluteals.
