Happy St.Patty’s Day!
You know what that means. Tomorrow morning is going to suck. You’ve had enough green beer (slash additional party favors) to last you for another 364 days. Believe me, we’ve all been there.
Post-holiday hangovers – well, hangovers in general – are the worst. Especially as you age. Let’s be real, unless you took a lifetime vow of sobriety, you’re not going to stop consuming alcoholic beverages.
We’ve figured out how to down vodka sodas and party like it’s 1999, but it seems like a hangover cure is still an enigma. The main cause of feeling like shit the next morning is widely known: dehydration.
But, hydrating the body is not as simple as chugging water until you have a water baby living inside your belly.
It’s a little more complicated. Water is necessary for flushing out all those nasty toxins. But what about all those lost vitamins and minerals?
I’ve created a little drink that covers your hydrating baseline. You can drink this before bed.
Warning: use of knife skills and blender required. So it’s not a drink you should make while you’re drunk. But you can always make it the next morning.
Just make sure to keep these ingredients on hand for whenever that little alcohol devil pops up on your shoulder to convince you that tonight’s happy hour is a good idea…
The Science of The Ultimate Hangover Cure
You can drink the healthy smoothie and not worry about why it works. But if you’re curious, here’s why the drink is better than your average hangover drink.
Kiwi: Contains the same amount of potassium as a banana, but with less sugar.
Pear: Pears provide a good source of fiber and potassium.
Celery: It might seem bland, but celery has anti-inflammatory properties, and it’s rich in vitamin K, folate, vitamin A, potassium, and vitamin C.
Cucumber: Adds to your (much needed) hydration.
Ginger: Science suggests it can help decrease nausea and motion sickness.
Lemon: Helps with the flavor because you want to enjoy your drink.
Pink Himalayan Salt: Restores lost trace minerals from all the boozing.
